Chef Billy Allin, a 2017 James Beard semifinalist, has officially handed over the keys to Bread & Butterfly, the Atlanta eatery known for its European-inspired cuisine.
Allin closed Cakes & Ale in 2018 and decided to close up shop at Proof Bakery in 2021. Now, Allin has passed the torch of Bread & Butterfly to Demetrius Brown and Brandon Blanchard of Heritage Supper Club. The duo previously worked with Bread & Butterfly when they began hosting an Afro-American pop-up residency at the restaurant in the evenings. Following the pop-up’s success, Allin offered Brown and Blanchard the opportunity to take the reins of the establishment, confident that they would carry the restaurant’s traditions while infusing their distinctive culinary flair.
The change in ownership promises an exciting new chapter for Bread & Butterfly as Brown and Blanchard plan to keep breakfast and lunch as close to what Allin established as possible while focusing dinner service on French colonized countries and islands, including Haiti, Jamaica, Niger, Senegal, and Congo.
Brown and Blanchard also plan to host quarterly Heritage Supper Club events at Bread and Butterfly as they search for a permanent location for a Heritage restaurant.
