Ted’s Montana Grill will open in Avalon, the new lifestyle community in Alpharetta, when the mixed-use development debuts on October 30. Open daily for lunch and dinner, the 4,600-square-foot restaurant will seat 135 guests, with room for another 30 diners on the patio. Ted’s Montana Grill was co-founded in 2002 by Ted Turner, the media entrepreneur, environmentalist and philanthropist; and restaurateur, George W. McKerrow. Headquartered in Atlanta, the company now has 46 locations across the country.
“We were drawn to Avalon for our newest location because it’s going to be a hub for the community to eat, shop, work and play,” explains McKerrow, who serves as the company’s CEO. “Our Big Sky Spirit, which welcomes our guests with authentic American dining and genuine hospitality, is a natural fit for Avalon’s attention to detail and amenities.”
Proprietor Jeff Hormel will lead a staff of 65 at the new restaurant. “Our Avalon location is the first LEED-registered project for the company,” says Hormel. “Sustainability is ingrained in nearly every aspect of our restaurant.”
Ted’s Montana Grill will incorporate many eco-friendly technologies and practices as it does in its other locations, from low-voltage, LED light bulbs to menus printed on recycled paper.
Environmentally friendly restaurant products include paper straws, wooden drink stirrers, cornstarch to-go cups, recycled coasters and biodegradable to-go cutlery. Kitchen staff follow specific “fire up/fire down” guidelines to save electricity, use energy-saving equipment and utilize griddle cook tops that lower the level of grease particulates released into the air. Restrooms feature water-efficient fixtures and biodegradable powder Boraxo soap.
The design of the Avalon location is inspired by old western saloons and reminiscent of the 19th century American frontier. The decor will feature Mahogany paneling, pressed tin ceilings, brass fixtures and crown molding.
The floor plan features an open kitchen and a dining room with booths and round tables. The bar will serve handcrafted cocktails – including Ted’s new adult milkshakes – beer and wine.
Popular appetizers include Salt-N’-Pepper Onion Rings, hand-breaded rings with fresh horseradish sauce; and St. Philip’s Island Crab Cakes with fresh guacamole and kale salad. Classic dishes include steaks, meatloaf, pot roast, pecan crusted trout, cedar plank salmon and beef and bison burgers. Meals are served with sides ranging from fresh-cut fries to “Aunt Fannie’s” squash casserole.
