Cypress Street Pint and Plate, a Midtown neighborhood staple known for its burgers, brews and events, recently welcomed Matt Deckard to its team. A veteran chef with a culinary background in Atlanta, Deckard joins the Cypress Street team right before they head back to Las Vegas this November for the World Burger Championship, where their Sublime Doughnut Burger earned the title of the second best burger in the world in 2013.
Before taking over the kitchen at Cypress Street Pint and Plate this fall, Deckard worked in Charleston, South Carolina where he developed a passion for seafood and southern cuisine. After moving to Atlanta, he further honed his craft by working in a number of restaurants including Garrison’s Broiler & Tap, Taco Mac, and Deckard’s Tavern. With a love of all things beer, Deckard is now working side-by-side with co-owner Billy Streck and Cypress Street Pint and Plate’s resident beer expert, Rob “BrewRu” Merrick to continue to build the restaurant’s beer program. The menu includes daily specials and seasonal dishes, burgers and sandwiches, salads, entrees, desserts and more. Although knee-deep in planning their attack for 2014 World Burger Championship, Deckard will also be working with Streck and Merrick to revamp the lunch, dinner and weekend brunch menus in the coming weeks.
