In a suburb of Chicago at the age of 14, Tawny Abraham got her first introduction into the restaurant industry at a local pizza joint, answering phones, manning the register and occasionally helping make pizzas. She worked there until high school when another local restaurant hired her as hostess and food runner.
It wasn’t until 2007 that Abraham made the move to Georgia, where she gained more experience working for local mom-and-pop type places, sports bars and a Chili’s.
Eventually, Abraham landed at Marlow’s Tavern in Duluth in 2008, where she started as a server. But thanks to her strong work ethic and dedication to always providing top-notch service, Abraham quickly rose through the ranks, running the expo during lunch, becoming a certified trainer, opening two Marlow’s Taverns and landing her current position as Hospitality/Bar Manager.
Whether it’s getting food to go out or talking with the regulars, Abraham, 33, impressively balances many jobs while providing expert guidance and support to her team. Even if Abraham isn’t fully familiar with a role, she will readily jump on the line or run food if needed to help out her staff.
“Whatever it takes, that’s my attitude,” Abraham says. “I know when I need something this is the person to call, and I’ve always tried to strive to be that person. If anything is ever needed, I want to do that not just to make myself succeed but for the restaurant to succeed.”
